Where does this story take place?
The novel takes place in Toronto, Ontario. Kristen and Lauren are roommates who live in the Yonge and Eglinton area (a popular mid-town area where a lot of young people congregate). Kristen’s internship at RoseGreer takes place in the downtown core of Toronto in the business district. Both Lauren and Kristen grew up next door to each other in Etobicoke, an area in the western end of the city.
When does this story place?
The novel doesn’t specify when the story takes place although it is happening in modern times. I think the happenings in this novel could, for the most part, be applicable both now and in the future.
What is the genre of the novel?
The Tao of Kristen’s genre is mainly contemporary satire. You may also enjoy the story if you like coming-of-age stories, chaotic forces, dark humour, irreverent characters, and bagels. Nothing in the novel should be taken too seriously except the serious parts.
What’s up with the spelling?
In the novel, Canadian spelling is used. Canadian spelling is about 99% similar with American spelling except certain words have an extra ‘u’ added such as in ‘colour’ and ‘humour’. Also, words like ‘centre’ would be spelled as ‘center’ in the US.
What is the central premise of the novel?
The main premise behind the novel is capturing that time of life when you are leaving university trying to start your career.It is often a blank slate in front of you, which can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Some people have ambitious plans while others are in no hurry to get into the ‘real world’. Also, many times life will throw you curve balls and take you in directions you never expected.
What is the significance of the word “Traumfrau“?
The alternate title for this novel is Traumfrau. Traumfrau is a German word that translates directly as “dream woman”. Not only does it make reference to the literal play written in Kristen’s honour, it also ties into various themes of the novel including muses and inspiration.
Will there be a sequel?
